فَكَتَبَ إِبْنُ الْقَصَّابِ إِلَى الْخَلِيفَةِ النَّاصِرِ،
So Ibn al-Qassab wrote to the caliph al-Nasir,
الْقَصَّابِ — al-Qassab. A 'belonging-to' surname completing the byname as the owner of the 'son of …' pair, in the genitive as the second member and lending definiteness back to 'son'. Its literal 'butcher' sense survives only as a family label.
