or you may defeat your opponent while knowing you are wrong.
وَتَقْطَعُ — and you defeat. 'and you cut off / defeat,' joined by 'and' — the second, opposite peril. Now YOU silence your opponent. Its object, 'your opponent,' follows; but, as the next clause adds, you do so while in the wrong.
