How to say “diminish” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
ومن ثقل نومه محقت بركة عمره
Whoever sleeps heavily, the blessings in his life are diminished.
مُحِقَتْ — are diminished. This verb is passive: the blessing is wiped away by something unstated rather than wiping itself out. Arabic marks the passive by the inner vowel pattern, and the feminine ending agrees with the feminine subject 'blessing' that follows.
