How to say “distinction” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَقَالَ لُقْمَانُ غَايَةُ الشَّرَفِ وَالسُّؤْدُدِ حُسْنُ الْعَقْلِ
Luqman said, 'The highest honor and distinction is a sound mind.'
والسؤود — and of distinction. Joins a connector 'wa-' to a noun made definite by 'al-'. The 'wa-' is additive, pairing 'distinction' with 'honour' as a second thing whose peak is meant, so this noun too sits in the genitive within the possessive chain. The connector keeps both nouns governed by 'the peak of'.
