Arabic vocabulary
How to say “do” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
إِنَّهُ لَمْ يَعْمَلْ خَيْرًا قَطُّ،
He never did any good at all.
يَعْمَلْ — do. This is a present-shaped verb that has been pushed into its clipped jussive form by the negation word before it; together they express 'never did'. The 'he' subject lives inside the verb, and the cut-down ending is the visible sign that the preceding particle is controlling this verb.
