Arabic vocabulary
How to say “dried up” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وأقلع شجر بستانها وتعطلت المروز،
Her garden trees were uprooted, and the streams were dried up.
وَتَعَطَّلَتِ — and were dried up. The 'and' joins a second clause, and beneath it a past-tense verb on a reflexive pattern means 'ceased / fell idle', with a feminine subject that follows. The reflexive shape conveys the streams stopping of themselves, and the verb precedes its subject in normal Arabic order.
