Arabic vocabulary
How to say “trees” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وأقلع شجر بستانها وتعطلت المروز،
Her garden trees were uprooted, and the streams were dried up.
شَجَرُ — trees. This is the delayed subject of the passive verb, the trees that were uprooted, carrying the subject ending though it follows the verb. It also heads a possessive pairing, 'trees of her garden', so it both receives the passive action and opens the 'of' link.
