How to say “drink” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَكَانَ يشرب الْخمر ويجلده النَّبِي
And he used to drink alcohol, and the Prophet would lash him.
يَشْرَبُ — he drinks. This is a present-tense verb with a built-in 'he' subject, paired with the earlier 'was' to give the habitual 'he used to drink'. The present tense inside that frame is what conveys a repeated habit rather than a single act.
