Arabic vocabulary
How to say “engage one another” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَلَمَّا تَصَافَّ الْقَوْمُ كَانَ سَيْفُ عَامِرٍ فِيهِ قِصَرٌ،
When the people engaged one another, Amir's sword had a short dagger in it.
تَصَافَّ — engaged one another. A mutual-action verb form: the shape itself builds in the idea that the two sides did this to each other, so a single Arabic word carries 'lined up against one another'. English needs a phrase like 'engaged one another' to spell out what the verb pattern already encodes.
