واستثنى من أولئك من قبل هداه واتبع رضاه
Except those whom He guided beforehand and who followed His pleasure.
وَاسْتَثْنَىٰ — Excepted. The wa- opens the sentence, and the verb means 'he made an exception', in the self-seeking pattern, with its 'he' subject built in. The doer is God; the verb sets up that some are carved out from the general accountability just stated.
