Arabic vocabulary
How to say “folly” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
لَيْسَ مِنْ أَحَدٍ إِلَّا وَفِيهِ حَمْقَةٌ فِيهَا يَعِيشُ
There is no one except that in him is a folly in which he lives.
حَمْقَةٌ — folly. This noun is the delayed subject of the 'in him is...' clause, carried in the nominative as what exists; its indefinite ending marks it as 'a folly', one instance. The 'in him' phrase comes first and the subject follows, the normal order for existence statements. It names the trait each person is said to harbour.
