Arabic vocabulary
How to say “forbidden” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَلَا يَصْبِرُ عَنِ نَظْرَةٍ مُحَرَّمَةٍ
and he cannot refrain from a forbidden glance.
مُحَرَّمَةٍ — forbidden. A passive-participle adjective ('forbidden'), describing the glance as something that has had the action of prohibiting done to it. It agrees with 'glance' in being feminine, indefinite, and in the genitive, which ties the description firmly to that noun. Arabic builds such 'made-X' adjectives off the verb itself.
