How to say “grit” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَقُلْتُ إِنْفَضِّ الضَّرْعَ مِنَ التُّرَابِ وَالشَّعْرِ وَالْقِذَى
I said, "Shake the udder free of dirt, hair, and grit."
وَالْقِذَى — and the grit. The 'wa-' (and) adds the final item to the cleaning-list, fused onto a definite noun whose 'al-' (the) is pulled in. It too falls under the earlier 'from' and keeps the 'of'-style ending. The word ends in a long 'a' written with a special silent letter, part of its fixed spelling rather than an ending.
