Arabic vocabulary
How to say “had been filled” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَدَخَلَ فَوَجَدَ الْقِفََّ قَدْ مُلِئَ،
Then he entered and found that the basket had been filled.
مُلِئَ — had been filled. This is the passive form: the basket undergoes the filling rather than doing it, with the filler left unnamed. Arabic builds the passive not with a helper word like 'was' but by reshaping the vowels inside the verb, so the form sits close to its active twin yet flips who does and who receives.
