Arabic vocabulary
How to say “he prolonged” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَلَبِثَ عَنْيِ فَأَطَالَ اللُّبْثَ،
So he stayed away from me and prolonged his absence.
فَأَطَالَ — and he prolonged. The fa- prefix links this action to the one just before, 'and', on a make-it-long verb, 'he made the staying long', with its 'he' subject built in. This is the causative shape, the doer lengthening the thing rather than merely doing it.
