Arabic vocabulary
How to say “hear” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
كَأَنَّكَ لَمْ تَسْمَعْ أَخْبَارًا مِنْ مَضَى
It is as if you had not heard news of those who have passed.
تَسْمَعْ — hear. A present-shaped verb sitting in its clipped form because the negator before it demands that ending, and that negator also drags its sense into the past, giving 'did not hear'. So although the verb looks present, it reports a past non-event. Its 'you' subject is built in.
