Arabic vocabulary
How to say “his mistake” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَالْعَالِمُ مِنْهُمْ يَغْضَبُ إِنْ رُدَّ عَلَيْهِ خَطَؤُهُ،
So the scholar among them becomes angry if his mistake is pointed out to him.
خَطَؤُهُ — his mistake. A noun carrying the owner -hu ('his') on its end, naming whose mistake it is. With the passive verb just before it, this is the thing that undergoes the action, the logical subject of being-pointed-out, which is why it takes the doer-style nominative ending even though it is what gets corrected.
