Arabic vocabulary
How to say “horizons” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَأَفَلَتْ كَوَاكِبُهُ النَّيِّرَةُ مِنْ آفَاقِ نُفُوسِهِمْ فَلِذَلِكَ لَا يُحِبُّونَهَا،
And his bright stars faded from the horizons of their souls, so for that they do not love them.
آفَاقِ — horizons. This noun is the first half of a possessive pairing: it is bound directly to the word after it, so 'horizons' and 'their souls' read as 'horizons OF their souls' with no separate word for 'of'. Being the front member, it gives up any 'the' of its own and leans on the following noun for its definiteness.
