Arabic vocabulary
How to say “I interpreted” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
قَالَ سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيَّبِ فَأَوَّّلْتُهَا قُبُورَهُمْ
Saeed ibn al-Musayyib said: so I interpreted it as their graves.
فَأَوَّلْتُهَا — so I interpreted it. Bundles fa- 'so' at the front, a past verb with its 'I' subject, and the attached 'it' as object. The suffix is feminine because it reaches back to the feminine thing being interpreted, so tracking that earlier referent is how you know what 'it' points to.
