And similarly, "In the name of Allah" at the beginning;
بِسْمِ — in name. 'in the name of' — 'bi' (in, with) fused to 'ism' (name), which heads an 'of' pairing with 'Allah'. The alif of 'ism' drops in this fixed phrase, a spelling shortcut unique to the basmala.
