How to say “in what” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
قَالُوا فَفِيمَ الْعَمَلِ
They asked, "So what is the deed?"
فَفِيمَ — so in what. This single word stacks three pieces: a leading 'so/then' connector, the preposition 'in', and a question word 'what'. The 'so' links it to the prior exchange, the 'in' sets up an 'in what' relationship, and together they ask 'so in what then?'. It is a compressed three-part question opener.
