Arabic vocabulary
How to say “intoxicants” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَقَالَ كُنْتُ رَجُلًا أَكْثَرَ شُرْبًا الْمُسْكِرِ،
And he said, I used to be a man who often drank intoxicants.
الْمُسْكِرِ — intoxicants. The al- on the front makes this definite, 'the intoxicant(s)', and it stands as the thing drunk. Marking it definite presents intoxicants as a known, general category rather than just some drink, which fits a man confessing to a settled habit. The drinking action-noun before it reaches over to govern this as its object.
