Arabic vocabulary
How to say “kindness” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
يَسْتَكْثِرُ قَلِيلَ الْمَعْرُوفِ مِنْ غَيْرِهِ
He regards a small kindness from other than him as excessive.
الْمَعْرُوفِ — the kindness. Definite by 'al-' and standing as the owner-word completing 'a little of the kindness', so it sits in the genitive as the second of two linked nouns. The two nouns placed together carry the 'of' sense with no separate word. It names the favour whose small amount he overvalues.
