Arabic vocabulary
How to say “merchant” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
كان الجصاص تاجرًا أحمق، فدخل على ابن الفرات الوزير،
Al-Jassas was a foolish merchant who entered upon the minister Ibn Al-Furat.
تَاجِرًا — merchant. The description carried by the linking verb, 'a merchant'. Because that 'to be' verb governs its predicate into the object ending, this noun takes that ending though it merely tells us what he was; it is left indefinite.
