فَلَوْ قَدْ طَلَعَ عَلَيْهِ صُبْحُ الْعِلْمِ اِفْتَضَحَ
So if the dawn of knowledge had risen upon him, he would have been exposed.
الْعِلْمِ — of knowledge. The owner-noun completing 'the dawn of knowledge', in the genitive shape. Being the second half of the side-by-side pair, it takes the genitive ending and gives the whole phrase its definiteness.
