How to say “one who holds accountable” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَإِنَّمَا يَعْرِفُ الزِّيَادَةُ مِنَ النُّقْصَانِ الْمُحَاسِبُ لِنَفْسِهِ
Only the one who holds himself accountable can distinguish increase from decrease.
الْمُحَاسِبُ — the one who holds accountable. A definite noun, the delayed subject of the verb that opened the sentence, so it carries the plain subject ending. It is the sole one who can tell increase from decrease, the qualifier the restriction frame was holding back. Arabic can place the subject this late, so the verb waited for it.
