How to say “only” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
الْمُقْبِلُ عَلَى دُنْيَاهِ وَشَهَوَاتِهَا فَقَطَّ
The one who is intent only on his worldly life and its desires.
فَقَطَّ — only. This is an adverb meaning 'only / just', and its grammatical job is to fence the statement in: his focus is on the world and its desires and nothing more. It restricts the scope of what was said, which is why the English adds 'only'.
