Arabic vocabulary
الصَّلٰوَةَ is how you say “prayer” in Arabic. Hear it pronounced and see it used in a real example sentence from classical texts below.
فَنَادَى الصَّلٰوَةَ جَامِعَةً
Then he called for the prayer to be held in congregation.
الصَّلَاة — the prayer. The al- marks this as the definite, specific prayer, the named ritual. It is the thing called for. Its written 'the' attaches to a letter that swallows the l-sound in speech, so the article blends into the noun when read aloud even though it stays written.
