How to say “preceding” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
Whenever you feel lonely in your solitude, then look to the preceding companion.
السَّابِقِ — the preceding. An active participle ('the foregoing/preceding one') describing the companion just before it, agreeing with it as a definite singular in the genitive. It is not a separate person but a qualifier: the companion who has gone on ahead on the path. It tells you which companion to fix the gaze on.
