Arabic vocabulary
How to say “the companion” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَكُلَّمَا اِسْتَوْحَشْتَ فِي تَفَرُّدِكَ فَانْظُرْ إِلَى الرَّفِيقِ السَّابِقِ،
Whenever you feel lonely in your solitude, then look to the preceding companion.
الرَّفِيقِ — the companion. Governed by the preceding 'to', this noun takes the genitive ending and names where to direct the gaze. Its definite al- assimilates in sound into the following sun letter, doubling that consonant when spoken. A describing word follows that will mark which companion is meant.
