Arabic vocabulary
How to say “prevent” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
تَخْطَفُهُ وَتَعُوقُهُ عَنِ الْمُرُورِ عَلَيْهِ،
It snatches him and prevents him from passing over it,
وَتَعُوْقُهُ — and prevents him. Same present-tense verb-plus-object pattern as the one before, now with wa- ('and') attached to chain it to the previous action. The wa- here simply coordinates two things the same subject does, so both verbs share one doer and one victim, the -hu 'him' object again riding on the verb's tail.
