Arabic vocabulary
How to say “protectors” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
قَالَ قُولُوا اللَّهُ مَوْلَانَا وَلَا مَوَالِيَ لَكُمْ
He said, "Say: Allah is our protector and you have no protectors."
مَوَالِيَ — protectors. An irregular 'broken' plural, where the word reshapes its inner vowels to mark 'more than one' instead of just tacking on an ending. It is the thing being denied by the 'la' before it, the predicate of the negative claim about the addressees. Such plurals are formed by a pattern change rather than a suffix.
