How to say “rat” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَرَأَى الْجُرْذَ يَحْفُرُ بِمَخَالِبِ مِنْ حَدِيدٍ
Then he saw the rat digging with iron claws.
الْجُرْذَ — the rat. A definite noun standing as the thing seen, so it takes the object-style ending as the direct target of 'saw'. It is also the doer of the action in the clause that follows, 'the rat [as it was] digging', so it bridges the seeing and the digging, being object of one and subject of the other.
