How to say “refuted” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فما الظن بالمردود عليهم؟
What then is expected of those they refuted?
بِالْمَرْدُودِ — with the refuted. Built on a passive-participle pattern, this word means 'the ones who were refuted' — the receiving end of the rebuttal, not the doers. The 'bi-' before it both ties it into the idiom of supposition and forces it into the genitive. The mold itself flips the action onto its target.
