How to say “root of” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَمَا كَانَ مَوْضُوعًا فِي أَصْلِ الْجَوْهَرِ،
and whatever is rooted in the very essence,
أَصْلِ — root of. This noun is the head of an 'of' pairing ('root of...'), so it owns the noun that follows and drops its own article. It is also governed by the preceding 'in', placing it in the (genitive). Arabic stacks the two relationships at once: governed by a preposition and possessing a following noun.
