Arabic vocabulary
How to say “selves” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَقَالَ إِنَّهُ قَتَلَ تِسْعَةً وَتِسْعِينَ أَنْفُسًا
He said, "Indeed, he killed ninety-nine people."
أَنْفُسًا — selves. This is the counted noun specifying what the number refers to, and after a number in this range Arabic puts it in the object-style (accusative) ending. Its plural shape here names the persons tallied, completing the count as the thing measured by the preceding numeral.
