Arabic vocabulary
How to say “separation” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَهِيَ تَتَمَنَّى بَقَاءَكَ، وَأَنْتَ تَتَمَنَّى فِرَاقَهَا
She wishes you would stay, while you wish to be apart from her.
فِرَاقَهَا — being apart from her. This action-noun, 'parting from / being-apart-from her', has the 'her' pronoun on its end and is the object of his wishing. Arabic uses such an action-noun where English says 'to be apart from her'. The -ha marks the mother as the one he wishes to be free of, the bitter contrast Umar draws.
