Arabic vocabulary
How to say “staying” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَهِيَ تَتَمَنَّى بَقَاءَكَ، وَأَنْتَ تَتَمَنَّى فِرَاقَهَا
She wishes you would stay, while you wish to be apart from her.
بَقَاءَكَ — your staying. This action-noun, 'your staying / survival', has the 'your' pronoun on its end and is the object of 'wishes', the thing she longs for. Arabic uses such an action-noun where English would say 'that you stay'. The -ka marks the man as the one whose survival she wants.
