How to say “shaykh / elder / teacher” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَأَنْكَرَ الشَّيْخُ وَصِدْقِ وَبِرٍّ،
The sheikh denied it, and he was truthful and pious.
الشَّيْخُ — the sheikh. A definite noun 'the sheikh', the subject (doer) of 'denied', so it wears the subject ending. Its 'the' marks the specific scholar as the one who rejected the charge.
