Arabic vocabulary
How to say “stayed” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وفرق بين الإلفين وكم باتا،
And He separated between the two close companions, though they stayed together for long,
بَاتَا — they stayed. A past-tense verb in the dual meaning 'the two spent the night', with the dual ending agreeing with the two companions. Arabic has a dedicated verb form for exactly two doers, so the ending alone tells you both of them, not more, passed those nights together.
