Arabic vocabulary
How to say “the battle” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَكَمْ مِنْ شُجَاعٍ فِي صَفِّ الْحَرْبِ اُغْتِيِلَ،
How many a brave man in the ranks of battle was treacherously slain.
الْحَرْبِ — the battle. A definite noun carrying 'the', the owned half of 'ranks of the battle'. That owner role puts it in the 'of...' ending and lends definiteness to 'ranks' before it. So it pins the setting as the thick of war, where the brave man was treacherously cut down.
