How to say “the child” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَأَخَذَتَا يَخْتَصِمَانِ فِي الصَّبِيِّ الْبَاقِيِّ
They then began to argue over the remaining child.
الصَّبِي — the child. The al- makes this a definite, specific child. Following the preposition, it takes the post-preposition case. Its written 'the' attaches to a letter that swallows the l-sound in speech, so the article blends into the noun when read aloud even though it is still written.
