Arabic vocabulary
How to say “the dead” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
يَا رُوْحُ اللَّهِ إِنَّكَ تُحْيِي الْمَوْتَى؟
O Spirit of God, do you bring the dead back to life?
الْمَوْتَى — the dead. A definite noun naming the recipients of the action, in the accusative as the verb's direct object. Its special ending-letter spells out that object case here. It is what gets brought to life, not the doer.
