Arabic vocabulary
How to say “the earth” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
كَدْتَ تُحْرِقُ الْأَرْضَ وَمَا عَلَيْهَا بِنَارِكَ،
You almost burned the earth and what is on it with your fire.
الأَرْضِ — the earth. A definite noun marked by al-, the thing nearly burnt, the object of the burning verb. It takes the accusative ending that marks a direct object. The al- presents it as the whole, known earth, magnifying the rebuke: not some patch of ground but the world itself.
