Arabic vocabulary
How to say “you almost” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
كَدْتَ تُحْرِقُ الْأَرْضَ وَمَا عَلَيْهَا بِنَارِكَ،
You almost burned the earth and what is on it with your fire.
كَدْتَ — you almost. This is one of the 'verbs of nearness', a past-tense form with 'you' (masculine) built in, that means 'you came close to / almost'. It does not stand alone: it leans on the verb after it to say what was nearly done, so it works almost like a helper, framing the next action as something that very nearly happened but did not.
