Their distinguishing mark on their faces is from the trace of prostration.
السُّجُودِ — the prostration. This definite noun is the owning half of the 'trace of prostration' pairing, making the whole phrase specific. As the second noun in such a pairing it sits in the governed form. Arabic builds 'trace of X' by setting the two nouns directly together, no separate 'of'.
