How to say “the sea” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَلَوْ لَمْ نَرْكَبْ ثَبَجَ الْبَحْرِ،
If we had not sailed the surging sea,
الْبَحْرِ — the sea. A noun made definite by al- 'the', in the genitive as the owner half of the possessive pairing before it: 'the swell of the sea'. Set directly after the first noun with no separate 'of' word, its genitive ending supplies that link.
