Arabic vocabulary
الأَصَمَ is how you say “the unresponsive” in Arabic. Hear it pronounced and see it used in a real example sentence from classical texts below.
وَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يُبْكِيَ أَبْكَى الصَّخْرَ الأَصَمَ
And when he wanted to make people weep, he made even the unresponsive rock weep.
الأصم — the unresponsive. An adjective, 'the unresponsive/deaf', in apposition to 'the rock' and matching it in definiteness and case — Arabic makes describing words copy their noun. The agreement marks it as the rock's epithet, heightening the image of deaf stone weeping.
