Arabic vocabulary
How to say “was kindled” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ أَنَّ نَارٌ أُجِّجَتْ،
He said, "Have you considered if a fire were kindled?"
أُجِّجَتْ — was kindled. This is the passive form of the verb: the fire receives the action of being kindled, it does not kindle itself, and no kindler is named. Arabic marks the passive by changing the inner vowels rather than adding a helper word, which is why it looks close to its active twin but flips the role. The -t ending also agrees with the feminine 'fire' as the thing acted upon.
