How to say “weigh” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَأَمَرَ بِلَالًا أَنْ يَزِنَ لَهُ أَوْقِيَّةً
So he ordered Bilal to weigh an ounce for him.
يَزِنَ — weigh. A present-stem verb sitting right after the particle 'to', and so taking the subjunctive shape that particle forces. It reads as the thing ordered ('to weigh'), not an action already done, with its doer (Bilal) understood from context.
